1. Give to each one a good idea of the sources of this music. What is "old Jazz", or "old style"...
Where do Djanand Stéphane* come from ? In which atmosphere or musical culture were they born ? Try to understand the connexions with the other actual musics... A part of the course will be dedicated to the listening, because how can we play a music which is not heard ?

2. Main knowledges of the harmonic and the chords, the modes and the sentences.

3. Advices about the violin game, regarding the bow's work, the "swing", the left hand (glissandos, vibratos,...)

4. Develop your listening and your understanding of the music, the connection between your imagination and the game of your instrument... so, we will work with the ear (the score will be available if you need it).

5. Some individual courses will be planned at least once to give some personalized technic advices (and music advices too).

6. The plasure and the wellness are important for the learning and the creativity... I will do all what is possible to keep these two things!... Don't we say : PLAY an instrument ?...

*Small anecdote about that:
The music played by Django Reinhardt and Stéphane Grappelli is often called "Gipsy Jazz". It is a short way to call that because, even if Django comes from a Gipsy familly, he played a music which is not like theirs...
It would be better to say "Django Jazz": the standards of this time and his own compositions, with "pumping" guitars, which is the main innovation of this style at this period...
Now it is true that Gipsy people are very proud of that and they have perpetuated this musical style, which is loved by many musicians from all over the world, even if it stays more in the country where Django lived : Belgium and France...

All that mix is not loved by some Gipsy people, but for many others, it is normal !
So, if this course is called "Gipsy violin", this title is too shorter and everybody will understand what it means exactly, even if it is not correct...
(By the way, don't forget many Django's records with other instruments than guitar, and those where he plays electric guitar, which are less "gipsy"...)
