Ribant Joëlle

Artist, dancer and choreographer, Joëlle Ribant has become a reference in the art of American tap dancing in Belgium.

She has been teaching this discipline for over 25 years, thanks to a reputation based on her technical precision and original choreographies.

Influenced by the formidable career of her parents, the famous clowns "Les Ribanos", she has enriched herself with multidisciplinary artistic experiences, knowing the behind-the-scenes work since the age of 4...

Trained in the United States and Europe in the 70s, Joëlle Ribant has worked with some of the world's greatest tap dancers, including Rusty Frank (usa), Pam Sausa (usa), Walter Freeman of "Riverdance" (usa), Victor Cunofr), Philippe Roux (fr), Pascal Hulin (fr), Lane Alexander (usa), Amy Benatar (bel), Martine Hébette (bel),Ilona Illes (bel), Gerald Hampel (all), Heather Cornell (usa), Grégory Filler and Shane Preston from "Tap Dogs", Anthony Nolan (Lord of the Dance),Ruben Sanchez, Jason Samuel Smith, Sam Weber, Jason Janas, Sarah Reich, Kurt Albert, Josh Hilberman, Sarah and Leela Petronio...

In 1979, Joëlle won the title of European Tap Dance Champion in Paris, with her brother Guy, under the duo “Sam & Sandy”. They have danced all over the world (France, Benelux, Morocco, Spain, Germany, China, Vietnam, Italy, Greece and Yugoslavia) and still perform today at numerous events.

She has also taken part in numerous Belgian and international workshops. She is regularly hired by various organizations to teach tap dance (Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, Koninklijk Conservatorium van Brussel, Neufchâteau workshop, Libramont, Spa workshop, Arabesque in Antwerp, Karys Dance Center, Alidž Riga, Joies de la daŶse, Haŵid Targui,...).

Joëlle has choreographed several shows, films, clips and events: The musical epic “Thyl Ulenspiegel” performed in Villers-la-Ville (2000), creations for the Théâtre Loyal du Trac, Théâtre Big Bang, European Theater Company, Happy 2000 (at the Royal Palace in Brussels), for the film “Le mur” by Alain Berliner and that of HeŶrLJ HelŵaŶ “Théo et Marie”, as a dancer in “La bande à Jacco” with Annie Girardot, video clips directed by Jean-Pierre Berckmans, for Maurane, Souchon, Sheller.

One-off events: Télévie (2003/2004) for RTL-TVI, for the group “Ixhor” whose soloist is Chantal Nicaise, for the “Cape Cod Théâtre” in the play “C’tait hier” by Harold Pinter (January 2005) , for Sam Touzani, for “Coco & Co” with Marie-Sophie Talbot and Caroline Leboutte (creation 2011), Participation Belgium's Got talent RTL (2012), Dance for Tap Tonight (Bozar 2013), Manneke Tap (2017 season in Flanders)

A musician (trumpet/xylophone), she has played in several bands, such as "The Keyhole Conspiration Big Band", "The Flybusters" (trumpet/vocals), and the rock band "Bluff".

Joëlle was also a member of the European Irish Dance Commission. 25 years ago, Joëlle Ribant set up her own dance and musical comedy school, the Tap Show Company. A company was born from the core group of her students, with whom she tours for various events and shows.

he also created the dance-theater show "Café Frappé" (2010), in which she played the role of Lydia, directed by Serge Bodart.

Musical theatre remains her great passion and the main focus of her work. She has successively staged several creations: On stage, please! (1992), Larguez les amarres ! (1993), Black'n White (1995) and adapted Mary Poppins (1999), The Wizard of Oz (2001), and several end-of-year shows: I Can do that (1998), Ne rvous Feet (1999), Drummy Shoes (2001), The Shoes Must Go On! (2003), Tarata-Tap! (2005), Bigfoot (2007), Musical Airlines (May 2009), Clap'n Tap (2012-2013-2014), Let It Beat (2016) Musical in tribute to The Beatles and Tappy Birthday (2018) "Best of" anniversary show from the last 25 years.
